History of Magic:

It was a perfectly beautiful day outside. Perfectly beautiful and perfectly wonderful Quidditch weather. Of course, Taddy wasn't outside practicing Quidditch, no. Not on this perfectly, lovely day, no. She was studying for History of Magic. More importantly, she was supposed to be working on her homework but the pristine sky and the fluffy white cotton-candy clouds kept distracting her. Tearing her gaze away from the window, Taddy turned to her still closed book.

With a sigh she flipped open the front cover.

That was as far as the book went History wise. To be fair, it was an older book. Her finger traced the line to the page number for Egyptian Magic.

Libraries were quiet places, Taddy realized all too soon as she started to read. Grumbling, Taddy slung her bag onto her shoulder and picked up her book, nose buried in it as she walked out of the Library and down the hall. She didn't know where she was going, but she thought well when she was moving.

There was a downside to walking with a book in front of your face. Taddy collided with another witch and promptly tripped over the other girl's feet. They both fell to the ground and the book flew out of her hands.

"Oh gee, I'm sorry!" Taddy said, scrambling for her book. Offering the girl a hand, Taddy smiled at her. "I'm Theodora, Taddy, if you don't mind."

"Hello. I'm Aria." Aria tucked her hair behind her ear. "What are you studying for?"

"History of Magic. I can't remember important dates or deaths or... things like that. And I have an essay to write on Egyptian Magic... And... well... History of Magic is not my best class," Taddy admitted sheepishly. Aria smiled at her.

"I'm not good at Arithmancy," she whispered softly.

"Blimey! You're taking Arithmancy!?" Taddy shook her head despairingly. "I feel real sorry for you. I've got to finish studying. See you around, okay?"

Taddy resumed her reading and trotted down a flight of stairs. At the bottom of the second staircase, she waited as the staircase changed directions, then headed down the corridor. It was amazing she could still see where she was going. And she thought she was going the right direction.

The dead end smelled of mold and cobwebs. Sinking to the floor, Taddy read on, engrossed in the History book. It was fascinating! Who knew that the Egyptian wizards could use their magic to predict storms and even change weather patterns? And she hadn't known a thing about the ceremonial burial of dead Pharaohs. Apparently, wizards would give the Pharaohs a potion to ease their way to the Underworld, if you chose to believe such things.

Unmistakable footsteps sounded as Aria stopped and stared at the girl in the corner of the dead-end corridor.

"Taddy?" The Ravenclaw helped up the bleary-eyed girl. "Why aren't you at dinner?"

"Is it dinner time already? I was reading." Taddy muttered, wiping her eyes. "Why am I down here? Where am I?"

"You must have taken a wrong turn on the way to your Dormitories. I'm glad I found you, or you would have been down here a long time."

"Maybe I'd have finished the book by now." Taddy said, picking up her bag. "I doubt it though. Eventually, I'd start thinking with my stomach."

"Come on. There's pudding up at dinner." Aria pulled Taddy along.

"But they always have pudding!" Taddy protested. "I wasn't done reading!"

Laughing, Aria dragged Taddy up numerous staircases and back to a place that smelled fresh and clean. Taddy ate pudding that night, and only pudding. She accidentally spilled some on her book, but she didn't care. History of Magic would never be her least favorite class ever again.
For :iconcastlehogwarts:
History of Magic involves:
Perfectly beautiful days
Libraries
Being clumsy
Meeting a new friend
Getting lost
Liking to read in dark, dead-end corridors
Spilling pudding on your book.

Well, History of Magic involves all of the above for Taddy at least...
